  3. Sun Microsystems Inc. today announced the following financial results
  4. following the end of their fiscal fourth quarter on June 30:

  6. Revenues:          $972.2 million (up 3.1% over 4Q91)
  7. Earnings:          $ 37.7 million (down 43% over 4Q91)
  8. Earnings/share:      37 cents/share
  9.  
  10. Results for fiscal 1992 were:

  12. Revenues:          $3.59 billion (up 10% over FY91)
  13. Net income:        $173.3 million (down 8.9% over FY91)
  14. Earnings/share:    $1.71/share
  15. Cash reserves:     $1.2 billion (highest ever)

  17. During the fourth quarter, Sun's gross margins were 44% down
  18. from 46% for 4Q91. This was primarily due to price cuts made in
  19. an attempt to boost sales of the older SPARC-2 products. However,
  20. improvements in operating efficiencies offset some of the impact
  21. of the price cuts.

  23. Bookings were at a record level of $1 billion while inventory was
  24. at the lowest level in four years. Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation
  25. shipped a record 56,000 revenue units and SunSoft shipped 78,000
  26. UNIX licenses.
